Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 4, 2026

1. Overview

Short version: AccessiAI runs entirely in your browser. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data or browsing activity. Your audits stay on your device.

AccessiAI ("we", "our", or "the extension") is a free Chrome extension that performs WCAG 2.1 accessibility audits locally in your browser. This Privacy Policy explains what data is handled when you install and use the extension and when you visit this website.

2. Data We Collect

The AccessiAI extension itself collects no personal data. It does not have a back-end server and does not transmit your browsing history, page content, or audit results to us.

This marketing website uses Google Analytics (GA4) to understand aggregate visitor behavior (page views, session duration, referral source). See the Analytics section for details.

3. Data We Do Not Collect

We never collect or transmit:

  • URLs or page content of the sites you audit
  • Accessibility scan results or violation reports
  • Personally identifiable information (name, email, IP address via the extension)
  • Cookies set by the extension
  • Browser history or cross-site activity
  • Any data in the background — the extension has no background page with network access

4. AI Providers

AccessiAI optionally integrates with third-party AI providers (such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google Gemini) to generate human-readable explanations of accessibility violations. This feature works as follows:

  • Your own API key: You supply your own API key in the extension settings. The key is stored only in Chrome's local extension storage on your device and is never sent to our servers.
  • Direct connection: When you request an AI explanation, the extension sends only the relevant WCAG rule name and violation description directly from your browser to the chosen AI provider's API. No other page content or personal data is included.
  • Provider policies: Use of AI features is subject to the privacy policy of the AI provider you choose. Please review their policies before enabling AI analysis.
  • Opt-in only: AI analysis is entirely optional. The core accessibility audit runs fully locally with no network requests.

5. Analytics

This website (accessiai.com) uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to measure aggregate usage. GA4 may collect:

  • Pages visited and time spent on them
  • Browser type, operating system, and screen resolution
  • Geographic region (country / city) derived from IP address
  • Referral source (how you arrived at the site)

This data is aggregated and anonymized. We do not use it to identify individual visitors. Google's data practices are governed by the Google Privacy Policy. You can opt out via the Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on.

The AccessiAI browser extension does not include any analytics or tracking code.

6. Local Storage

The extension uses Chrome's storage.local API to save your preferences (e.g., selected WCAG level, AI provider choice, your API key). This data:

  • Never leaves your device unless Chrome Sync is enabled in your browser settings
  • Can be cleared at any time by removing the extension or clearing its storage via Chrome's extension management page

7. Third Parties

Other than the AI providers you explicitly opt in to, AccessiAI does not share any data with third parties. We do not sell, trade, or rent any information.

8. Children

AccessiAI is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through this website, please contact us so we can remove it.

9. Policy Changes

We may update this policy as the product evolves. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the extension or website after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
